4/2/2023 0 Comments Dc universe a.t.o.m.![]() For a time, the Suicide Squad used the new Atom as a secret weapon, appearing only when the team was in particularly dire straits. Cray agreed to assist Palmer in part to confront Deadshot, a member of the Suicide Squad who killed his father. Cray adopted the Atom's identity and joined the government's Suicide Squad while Palmer disguised himself as a Micro Squad member and infiltrated their ranks. Instead of joining the CIA, Palmer recruited Adam Cray, the son of a murdered US senator, to help him take down the CIA operatives and a group of miniaturized villains called the Micro Squad. Palmer was living in South America at the time with a group of miniature aliens and so the CIA arranged for loggers to wipe out the aliens and force him to return to the United States. The CIA became interested in Ray Palmer and his knowledge of other superheroes, and hoped to recruit him as an operative. He has yet to don a costume of call himself the Atom…yet. In the New 52, Palmer appeared as a scientist working for the SHADE organization, specializing in shrinking technology. Loring suffered a total mental breakdown and became the supervillain Eclipso before dying several years later. But-surprise! Palmer discovered that Loring orchestrated the attack to bring Palmer back into her life. In Identity Crisis, Loring and Palmer reconnected after another hero's wife is killed. Loring suffered from periodical mental issues due to her torture at the hands of a supervillain and their busy careers pushed Loring to have an affair with another man. ![]() Palmer's main love interest was Jean Loring, a lawyer residing in Ivy Town. ![]() Palmer also briefly led a version of the Teen Titans after the events of Zero Hour. Palmer's many adventures included fighting colorful superheroes as a member of the Justice League to joining a tribe of miniature aliens in a fantasy themed series. Given DC Studios co-head James Gunn's affinity for the weird and offbeat parts of DC canon, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine Doll Man showing up on the big screen one day.The Atom never gained the popularity of many other Silver Age superheroes, causing DC to constantly reinvent Palmer over the years. And even more recently, he was mentioned in the first season of Peacemaker. That series would eventually lead to the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Earth-X, where the heroes fought against Nazi versions of themselves. He appeared in Batman: The Brave and the Bold as a member of the Freedom Fighters, as well as the digital series Freedom Fighters: The Ray. who have had ties to the Creature Commandos!ĭoll Man has also made some brief apperances in other DC media. Prior to that Colt worked with the organization known as S.H.A.D.E. But like Dane, he'd eventually find himself working with a new incarnation of the Freedom Fighters. Unlike his predecessor, Colt is more of a black ops agent - preferring to use lethal force to solve his problems. But a new take on the character would come in the form of Lester Colt. ![]() He would also appear in All-Star Squadron, a comic with a similar premise.Įventually, Doll Man fell out of the limelight again due to the original Crisis on Infinite Earths maxiseries, which wiped away DC's multiverse in an effort to clear up decades of convoluted canon. This world was locked in perpetual war as the Allied powers never won World War II. In his DC debut, Dane would become part of the Freedom Fighters, a group of revolutionaries stationed on Earth-X. Their characters were soon picked up by DC and incorporated into the DC Universe proper this wasn't the first time the publisher would do this, as a similar fate awaited Billy Batson/Shazam. But in 1953, Quality Comics - the publisher behind Doll Man - went out of business. Eisner's penchant for larger-than-life stories would serve him well when he created The Spirit a year later.ĭoll Man had a rather lengthy run, first in Feature Comics (he made his debut in issue #27) and then his own self-titled series. Though Doll Man never achieved the popularity of other superheroes such as Superman or Spider-Man, he does boast an impressive creator in the form of Will Eisner. Dane was soon joined by a motely crew that included Elmo the Wonder Dog and eventually Martha, who took the name "Doll Girl" when she used Dane's formula. He used these abilities to save his fiance Martha Roberts, and decided to fight injustice in all its forms. The self-proclaimed "World's Mightiest Mite" was born when scientist Darrel Dane developed a chemical formula that allowed him to shrink to six inches, while still retaining his human sized strength.
